The artisan’s station is designed to cater for the needs of the hearing impaired community while providing them a platform to showcase their talents and work. They visually read their surroundings like movements in objects, shadows, vibrations or facial, body expression of people around them. Hence, sensory reach is extended to 360 degrees in the structure. Clear visual connection is enhanced by the openness of the structure, enabling them to easily communicate via sign language

The elevated circular music studios are custom designed to suit the space with features that enable musical activities to be carried out inside without causing disturbance to the spaces outside them. For instance the studios are lined with sliding wooden partitions that will go around the structure and enclose the space to create an acoustic pod. Sound absorption is further enhanced by fabric blinds around the structure that can be pulled down when needed

A multi-storey orchestra stage accompanied by a seating and acousting panelling to create an acoustic shell for the best sound quality. Acoustic panels are custom made with LED light embedded to create a starry-sky illusion. The deaf and hard of hearing community perform on these stages to express themselves and showcase their ability, showing the world that their disabilities do not make them any less than the rest of us, when given the proper opportunity.

This project provides a platform for the deaf and hard of hearing community to showcase and utilize their talents and capabilities, by designing with subtle changes all brought together to cater for their abilities, integrated with the characteristics of music.
Perspective
ARTISAN'S STATION
The artisan’s station is designed to cater for the needs of the hearing impaired community while providing them a platform to showcase their talents and work. The space aims to empower the deaf and hard of hearing users, through designs that help them to project their best abilities without difficulty. The main customized machine used in the space is the musical loom machine. Wheels rotate upon operating the loom machine, this causes a series of chimes to hit against a rod at a rhythmic pace, creating a melodic tune as they continue to work. When all the spaces are in motion, the sounds they create will be orchestrated in harmony, bringing the whole space to life.
The space and its orientation are focused on five key elements that impact how deaf and hard of hearing users navigate buildings. They visually read their surroundings like movements in objects, shadows, vibrations or facial, body expression of people around them. Hence, sensory reach is extended to 360 degrees in the structure. Clear visual connection is enhanced by the openness of the structure, enabling them to easily communicate via sign language. Distractions caused by reverberation and background noise from hard surfaces are minimized by the use of sound absorbing materials for the partitions and flooring.
